Caravan and motorhome accessory brand Truma has made significant donations to the nursing staff on Covid wards of two German hospitals as a way of showing appreciation to them for their work through the pandemic. Truma management handed over cheques for €35,000 to Ebesberg Regional Hospital and €30,000 to Neuperlach hospital in Munich to reward the hard work of the nursing staff on the Covid wards at each. Every member of nurising staff will each receive a tax-free bonus of €300 from the money, passed on over a period of several months in the form of fuel and meal vouchers. Any remaining money will be used by the hospiatls for nursing equipment – the Munich Neuperlach hospital has already earmarked the purchase of a massage chair for nursing staff, which can be used in breaks for rest and relaxation.

Dr. Andrea Eidenschink granddaughter of Truma founder, Philipp Kreis, and Chair of Truma’s Renate Schimmer-Wottrich Foundation, as the initiator of the campaign, said: “The bonus shall make a small contribution towards making nursing staff feel cherished and valued and hopefully not lose their motivation when it comes to performing their sacrificial role. It is well known that many Covid-19 wards suffer from staff shortages and teams are also under continual pressure.”

Truma Gerätetechnik chose the Ebersberg regional hospital as one of the two hospitals to support. The healthcare institution which was founded in 1878 has been operating as a non-profit-making GmbH (German company with limited liability) since 2001 and offers 328 beds. Its goal, which is anchored in the mission statement, is to offer the people of the district and beyond a high standard of in-patient primary health care – even during the Corona pandemic.

The Munich Neuperlach hospital, which offers 545 beds, is a maximum care hospital of national significance and is also an academic teaching hospital of Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München. It is also home to Germany’s largest gastrointestinal centre.
