Volkswagen hails 'new era' with launch of new Multivan

Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has finally revealed its brand-new Multivan at a world premiere event in Hannover Germany – and has hailed the vehicle as one that will usher in a new era for the brand and for mobility.

The Multivan enters the Volkswagen Bulli range alongside the Transporter 6.1 and the ID.BUZZ. The T.61 will remain the model that is designed for specialist commercial use and also the base for the iconic California campervan. Meanwhile the lifestyle ID.BUZZ MPV and ID.BUZZ cargo vans are two new all-electric lines that Volkswagen hopes will conquer the urban driving environment.

The new Multivan, with its hugely versatile seven-seat arrangement will assume the role of the adaptable all-rounder. Designed with families and active people in mind, the seating and cargo space is adaptable to a huge range of scenarios – whether that’s for carrying passengers in comfort or large luggage like bicycles – the 4,053 litres of luggage capacity and adjustable and removable seats make everything possible.

A new feature of the model line is the plug-in hybrid system. The 160 kW / 218 PS high-tech drive system combines local zero-emission driving with very long ranges and low overall consumption. The Multivan with plug-in hybrid drive system has the name suffix ‘eHybrid’. In parallel, the front-wheel powered Multivan will be available with two different turbocharged petrol engines. They produce 100 kW / 136 PS and 150 kW / 204 PS. In 2022, a turbo diesel (TDI) with 110 kW / 150 PS will follow.

The Multivan will also feature a new digital cockpit, bringing a wide range of digital and online services to the driver.
