Beating off competition from 18 other vans, the Volkswagen T6.1 has been awarded the gold medal for commercial van safety in the latest Euro NCAP tests. The tests focused on the availability and function of active safety systems in the vans tested and singled out the T6.1 as having the best all-round scored.

A Euro NCAP statement said: “The Transporter offers consumers the option to buy a wide range of good- performing safety features and earns a gold medal in Euro NCAP’s tests. The Transporter sets amongst the commercial vans the bar for others in 2021.”

The T6.1 range features a wide choice of driver assist systems available, including Lane Assist and Front Assist with City Emergency Braking function, and Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) with speed limiter.

The news will be music to the ears of campers around Europe, for whom the Transporter is an incredibly popular choice for campervan conversions.
